2016 World Series Game 1: Tribe 6, Cubs 0

2016 World Series Game 1: Tribe 6, Cubs 0

2016: We’ve been going to Tribe games for years, and have even made it to a handful of playoff games. A few weeks ago, my buddy Bob and I went to Game 1 of the American League Division Series, where we beat Boston 5-4.

But this night was special (Oct 25). It was Game 1 of the 2016 World Series…against the Chicago Cubs…and just next door the Cavs were playing their home opener and receiving the NBA Finals championship rings.

Bob reached out over the weekend when he was able to get four tickets. The next day I was on a flight from Denver to Cleveland (using miles), and I joined Bob, his brother Tony and their mom to see the Tribe win 6-0.

Sadly, the series ended in heartache, again, as we lost it in extra innings of Game 7.

Still, it was another highlight game for me, adding on the number of home openers, and fun times at old Municipal and Jacob's Field (Progressive, whatever). I've also seen the Indians when they've come to the cities where I've lived, watching them against the Yankees and Mets in New York, the Rangers in Dallas, and the Rockies here in Denver a while ago. I've also watched them in Cincinnati and Detroit, and in 2009 I went to Spring Training in Goodyear, Arizona.

But among the coolest ticket stubs I have, outside of playoff or World Series games, is the one from the first-ever game at Jacobs Field, which opened 20 years ago today (April 2, 1994). That day the Indians held a final spring training game against Pittsburgh. We were in the upper deck of the packed stadium one the day few remember.
